All the makers of petfood formulate their petfoods in different ways and as a result, the nutritional profile of the products can differ quite significantly. For a specific brand recommendation I suggest you contact the manufacturers of your chosen brand to answer this question directly. If I was answering this question with respect to the Hills brands I’d suggest Science Plan Feline Adult Light. This food contains 7.8% fibre and 315 kcals per 100 grams of food which contrasts with 7.5% fibre and an energy content of 377 kilocalories in every 100 grams of Science Plan Hairball Control. It is the fibre content that sweeps the food and hair through the digestive tract, reducing the accumulation of hair as hairballs, so Light still has plenty of fibre to aid this process. Light also has added ingredients to assist in the conversion of fat into energy and limit fat storage, helping to keep cats slim. Contrast the figures with Science Plan Feline Adult which has an energy content of 415 kcals in every 100 grams of food and around 1% fibre and you will see that there is a very marked difference between that and both of the other products. If hairballs become more frequent than I would suggest switching to Hairball Control for 2-4 weeks to clear out any accumulated hair.
