Guinea pigs - sores

Q. Hello I have two guinea pigs and the one seems to be fine but the other one has quite a few sores down the one side of his body and he is also losing his fur. I have put tea tree cream on which seems to soothe him a bit but he scratches himself until he bleeds and yelps in pain. I have also tried to bandage the area to stop him scratching himself and whilst this helps - when I change the bandage he seems to be losing more fur. Do you know what could be causing this and what I can do about it?

This could be due to a number of reasons but one possibility is certainly mites with a secondary skin infection.  I would strongly recommend you get your guinea pig seen by a vet so they can assess the sores and give him the appropriate treatment- antiparasitic treatment and possibly pain relief and antibiotics.  They can also assess if there is another cause.
