Rabbits vs Guinea Pigs

Q. Hi Hannah, is it safe to have a rabbit and a guinea pig together or two rabbits together in one hutch?

Generally 2 rabbits together often will not get on unless they have been introduced at a young age. Rabbits and guinea pigs tend to get on better but again there is no guarantee especially if the rabbit is quite dominent.

I would recommend introducing them gradually in a controlled manner- allow them to be in the same area so they can see/smell each other eg hutches opposite each other to begin with. Then introduce them to each other under strict control and observation. Gradually increase the time they spend together. If you buy 2 rabbits or a rabbit and guinea pig that are used to being housed together then you should not need to slowely introduce them.

Many people keep Guinea Pigs on their own although they are sociable animals and will rely on you to provide that social interaction

thanks, also would a guinea pig on its own be okay or do they need company?
